An Introduction to Texas Holdem Poker

An Introduction to Texas Holdem Poker

So you’re new to Texas Holdem poker? Not a problem. Texas Holdem poker is by far the best game for a beginner to learn. Other poker games like Omaha or 7 card stud need a higher understanding of calculating odds and card counting. Texas Holdem can be learned in a few minutes and you can be playing fairly well with a few hours of practice. However, in order to learn the game you must play and you must play fairly often.
Online poker rooms offer a wide variety of play money tables where beginners may practice for free until they are ready to move up to the fun at real money tables. We recommend playing online to start because online poker rooms handle many tedious details, like dealing, shuffling, and determining who has the best hand.
A Texas Hold’em poker game goes as follows:
1. Depending on the limit and betting structure, players will place out blinds and antes so there is an initial amount to get things started. This is called posting.
2. The dealer shuffles up a standard deck of 52 playing cards.
3. Each player is dealt two private cards face down. These are called your hole cards or pocket cards.
4. Then there is a round of betting starting with the player to the left of the blinds. This is the preflop betting round. Like most games of poker, players can call, raise, or fold.
5. After the betting round ends, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This is called a burn card. This is done to prevent cheating.
6. The dealer then flips the next three cards face up on the table. This is called the flop. These are communal cards that anyone can use in combination with their two pocket cards to form a poker hand.
7. The player to the left of the dealer starts another betting round.
8. After the betting concludes, the dealer burns again then flips another communal card onto the table. This is called the turn.
9. The player to the left of the dealer begins another round of betting. In many types of games, this is where the bet size doubles.
10. Again, the dealer burns a card and places a final card face up on the table. This is called the river. Players can now use any of the five cards on the table or the two cards in their pocket to form a five card poker hand.
11. There is one final round of betting starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
12. After that, we have the showdown. All of the players who haven’t folded reveal their hands. This begins with the player to the left of the last player to call. Players use a combination of their pocket cards and the community cards to form a five card poker hand.
13. The player who shows the best hand wins! Although sometimes players with the same hand split the pot.
Once you understand the game’s basic structure, you can play Texas hold ‘em and even some of its variants. Texas Holdem is an easy game to learn, just difficult to master. The “mastering” part is the costly part, requiring study and practice.

Announced earlier this week, Team PokerStars Pro member Vanessa Rousso has signed an endorsement deal with EQ Labs, makers of EQ Energy Drink. Rousso, who is also a spokesperson for Go Daddy, joins a roster of international celebrities that are currently enjoying the benefits of “The Smart Energy Drink.”

For those who don’t know, EQ is a tablet that can be dissolved in any beverage to provide instant energy. It consists of a blend of essential vitamins, Gingko Biloba, and less caffeine than a cup of coffee. The flavors come in Mo Apple, Strawberry Dream, and Lemon Lime.

Rousso, who is currently at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), commented about the deal from Las Vegas: “I’m so happy to be part of the EQ Energy team! I have been working with the CEO for a few weeks and really believe in the product and the company. The energy tablets are awesome. They taste great, are super portable, and of course, give me a real energy boost.”

The agreement between Rousso and EQ Labs began on June 15th and will last at least one year. As compensation, she received restricted company shares.

“My deal with EQ is going to be across the board,” added Rousso. “I will do promotional events, commercials, and business development with my existing businesses and business relationships. I’ve always been an entrepreneur and can’t wait to start being involved in EQ marketing and promotion.”

Her first big cash came in 2006, where she took seventh in the World Poker Tour Championship for $263,625. She won the Borgata Poker Open later that year for $285,450. He also provides some interesting information about his other passions beside No Limit Hold’em, and gives a very surprising answer to one of the 4 Hijack Seat questions.

Jason Mercier is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and added another prestigious title to his mantle when he won the North American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun $25,000 High Roller Shootout for $475,000. Mercier has over $4.8 million in live tournament poker earnings in his career.

Frank Kassela, Scott Montgomery Win WSOP Bracelets

Wednesday was a busy day at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), one that began with Phil Ivey being awarded his eighth career bracelet and ended with three more players collecting hardware of their own. Events 36, 39, and 40 crowned winners in the Amazon Room, with a pair of familiar faces standing on top at the end of the night.

Full Tilt Poker pro Scott Montgomery picked up his first piece of WSOP hardware on Wednesday by winning the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #36. Montgomery, who was a member of the original WSOP November Nine in 2008, bested a field of 3,102 players to win the gold bracelet.

Montgomery admittedly ran hot just to reach the final table on Tuesday and his scorching run of cards continued on the final day. He began the final table eighth in chips, but his aggression fueled him to the top of the leaderboard and ultimately the $481,760 first prize. Montgomery took a huge chip lead into heads-up play against Mick Carlson and sent the Indiana native to the rail in just 15 minutes. On the final hand, a short-stacked Carlson moved all-in with Kd-2s and Montgomery called with Ad-7h. The board didn’t help Carlson and he earned $297,996 for his runner-up finish.

Montgomery, meanwhile, became the fourth Canadian to win a bracelet at the 2010 WSOP, joining Miguel Proulx, Aadam Daya, and Pascal Lefrancois. He eclipsed the $4,000,000 mark in career live tournament earnings.

1. Scott Montgomery – $481,760
2. Mick Carlson – $297,996
3. Adam Richardson – $210,892
4. Daniel Fuhs – $152,655
5. Sebastien Roy – $111,783
6. John Dolan – $82,804
7. Peter Dufek – $62,033
8. Timothy Beeman – $46,985
9. Michael Michnik – $35,986

Frank Kassela, Maxwell Troy, Vladimir Schmelev, Jennifer Harman, and Stuart Rutter all made repeat appearances at a final table when the $2,500 Seven Card Razz event reached its final eight players Wednesday evening. After 12 grueling hours of play, Kassela defeated Troy for the title, becoming the first player to win two bracelets in 2010.

Kassela, a father of five from Memphis, Tennessee, earned $214,084 in prize money, but battled from start to finish getting there. Kassela worked with a short stack for most of the tournament, crawling his way up the pay ladder before going on a rush early on Wednesday and entering the final table third in chips. From there, Kassela picked his spots wisely and overcame a 2:1 chip disadvantage to defeat Troy for the victory.

1. Frank Kassela – $214,085
2. Maxwell Troy – $132,229
3. Melville Lewis – $85,284
4. Vladimir Schmelev – $61,795
5. Mikko Pispala – $45,433
6. Jennifer Harman – $33,890
7. Stuart Rutter – $25,646
8. Chris Bjorin – $19,686

The $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Shootout played from 14 players down to one on Wednesday and, with notables Annette Obrestad and J.C. Tran vying for the title, gained a fair amount of interest going into the final day. Obrestad built a giant stack early on, but lost a pair of coin flips to cripple her and she eventually followed Tran to the rail before the final table was formed.

Jeff King eliminated Justin Scott in ninth place, propelling him to a chip lead that he would hang onto for most of the night. However, it was a 21 year-old pro from California that stepped up and claimed victory on Wednesday. Steven Kelly dominated in the late stages of the final table and took a significant chip lead into heads-up play against King. Then, at around 1:40am local time, King moved all-in for his last 1.5 million chips with Ks-Qd and Kelly made the call with Ah-9d. The board ran out Js-9c-3s-2c-3h and Kelly was instantly $381,922 wealthier.

1. Steven Kelly – $381,922
2. Jeff King – $236,819
3. Derric Haynie – $161,117
4. Dustin Dirksen – $112,214

Beginner Seven Card Stud Strategy – Starting Hands

In a previous article, I gave you a quick and dirty primer on Seven Card Stud.  Nothing fancy, just the nuts and bolts to get you started.  This week, I want to continue the lesson with some Fixed Limit Stud beginner strategy.

My starter lesson today is the one I try really hard to remember every hand: play tight.  Don’t play so tight that you limp into one pot every 50 hands since you have to pay an ante, but concentrate on using sound starting hand selection.  It is much harder to get away with poor starting hands in Stud than it is in Hold’em or Omaha, so make sure you are selective.  Let’s look at starting hands you will want to consider.

Rolled Up Trips

“Rolled up” is a Seven Card Stud term that refers to a three-of-a-kind on the deal, a pair in the hole and a matching third card as your door card.  It is a monster starting hand for rather obvious reasons: three-of-a-kind is the best hand you can have with only three cards and the fact that two of the three cards are hidden from your opponents makes it quite deceptive.

This is probably the only hand in Seven Card Stud that you can risk slow-playing right off the bat, as it might be able to hold up all the way to the river.  Keep in mind I said it “might” be able to hold up.  If you see straights or flushes developing in your opponents

CardRunners Happy Hour

We crashed the CardRunners Happy Hour from Stripburger in Las Vegas and took some video of the festivities on hand. Our designated representative for the video is none other than “Jeff218″ who takes us on a tour of the swanky Vegas eatery and introduces us to some of CR’s members and instructors. Those who make an appearance include “CPAR1″, “Knox828″ and “JungleMan” who is seen seriously enjoying is lemonade. This was the second of three free CardRunners happy hours for all their members and provided an open bar and food for all who came, so in other words, it was one heck of a good time. The video was taken about an hour into the party so many of those appearing on camera had enjoyed a free cocktail (or six).

10 Reasons to Play Poker at PokerStars

There are plenty of online poker sites to choose from these days, it might seem a daunting task to decide on which one to go with, but in my opinion there is only one choice – PokerStars.

1. It’s the largest poker site in the world! It’s rare to see less than 200,000 people playing at any one time, and more players mean more fish. As regular poker players make most of their money from the weaker players, it makes sense to follow the donkeys.

2. More players also means more table choice and game choice. It gives you more chance of finding the perfect table conditions. Several games are available at PokerStars, including Hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud, Five Card Stud, Seven Card, Stud Hi/Lo and Razz.

3. You can find exclusive satellite tournaments at PokerStars, and they send more players to the World Series of Poker each year, than all the other poker sites put together!

4. The software client is easy to use, customisable, and reliable. There are few alternatives which offer a similar level of quality.

5. A true random shuffle. The random number generator at PokerStars, has been approved by Cigital, an independent body. It shows that the pack shuffle algorithm is fair and completely random.

6. Multi-table up to 24 tables simultaneously! This is essential if you’re playing regular online poker for a living. Time equals money and it’s important to get through as many hands as possible to even out variance and increase your hourly rate.

7. PokerStars VIP Rewards. They offer one of the best rewards schemes anywhere, you can get electronics, books, DVDs and other poker accessories from the online store, simply by playing regularly.

Advantages and Disadvantages When You’re Playing Online Poker

Online poker offers many advantages over playing in a poker room, which is faster, easier, cheaper, safer and more fun. The biggest advantage of online play is that you can connect anytime and you can find other players waiting to play with you, regardless of the type of game you are looking for. And now, to compare something with a real poker room where you can find only a few players at a given time. Besides the greater number of tables and players, the game speed is also higher. You should not expect the dealer to interfere or interrupt play cards because of bad mixing or or spilt drinks.

The other big advantage of online poker is that you should physically move to reach the table. Whether you’re dressed in costume at work in pajamas at home or relaxing on the beach with your laptop, as long as you have an Internet connection and a few minutes, you can enter online. Whenever you play a real poker room must pay a fee and this fee called “Rake”. Even if a fee is required online is lower than that of real poker rooms, because no additional costs such as rent. A lower rate means a higher profit online. Poker online is safer than live. You should not go to the end of the city notorious for games – playing in the comfort of homes and infrastructure due to poker rooms, tricks and plots will be forgotten. Get rid of one another care, so you can enjoy the game!

Many online poker sites offer facilities to players in the form of bonuses. Typically, bonuses are given after a certain number of raked hands are played. For example, one site can offer a player who has a $ 100 a bonus of $ 50 once he plays 500 raked hands. Additionally, card rooms online, have developed several VIP programs to reward regular players. Poker rooms often offer additional bonuses for players who want to grow their accounts. They are known as reload bonuses. Wherever you live are offered payment options: there are accounts in many countries to speed transactions, accept Visa, Mastercard, Moneybookers, Paysafe and many other.

There are advantages and disadvantages of this type of life, sure is nice to travel in the country and world to play in different tournaments. Who does not love the atmosphere of the casino? But you must not forget the difference between people who are there to have fun, and you’re there to win money. If you are a tournament player should always be left (away from your family, etc..) and their travel expenses must be earned. Food and drink in casinos are generally expensive even compared to other hospitality units in the same city. Look at Daniel Negreanu in 2005, has not won any tournament within several months, so you can not allow a big break in this case.

One of the disadvantages of online poker is that you can not see your opponents reaction and body language. But to compensate for this there are some online poker action that helps to deduct the cards that a player has. These actions are important because they help you decide if your opponent is really good or he just wants to trick you.Si here but it is very important to know your opponents. “Going on Tilt”: This expression is used when a player leaves overwhelmed by feelings, negatively. This happens when a player bets on poor cards and lost more games in a row and is due this state mentality. Emotions are not searching for poker, whether it’s at online or offline. “Time to think”: If a player thinks for a long time, especially in no limit and pot limit, usually means one hand is weak and can not decide whether to bet or not. “Auto Buttons” :Online poker rooms allow you to use so called “Auto Buttons” . This allows you to check what you do before you act. If another player uses, you can find out if he has good cards or not. Using buttons indicate that they don`t want to fool, though some more experienced players can use this as a tactic to bluff.

In conclusion there are many advantages and disadvantages of online and in casino game, each player must weigh all options to see what fits best. Some can play both games and find a nice balance. You can make a profit on both If you pay attention and discover the benefits of each of them.

Enjoy the game! And if you want to start playing poker online go here to chose what fits you best http://rakeback.pokerftw.net

2010 World Series of Poker Day 26: Kwaysser Becomes Third Hungarian to Win WSOP Gold, Obrestad and Tran Going for Gold

Vlademar Kwaysser sealed a second bracelet for Hungary this year in Event #38 after he bested Matt Marafioti at the final table. Bracelet winners J.C. Tran and Annette Obrestad will be keeping the players on their toes in Event #39, and James Dempsey, after winning his first bracelet in Event #9 and coming in runner-up in Event #25, is near the top in Event #41. Will he be able to outlast the field and become the first two-time bracelet winner of the summer?

Event #36: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em

It’s not easy to outlast 3,009 players over three days of no-limit hold’em play, but after an extremely short ― less than five hours ― nine players have done just that.

When those nine return for Day 4, action should be interesting. The players’ chip stacks are spread out with Sebastian Roy leading with 1,867,000 in chips. Only two other players are over the 1 million mark: Timothy Beemanhas 1,788,000 and Daniel Fuhs will return to a stack of 1,251,000. Michael Michnik will need to be careful with his small stack of just 307,000 as willScott Montgomery who has a little more with 604,000. The rest of the players, John Dolan, Michael Carlson, Peter Dufek and Adam Richardson, make up the middle of the pack.

But this is no-limit hold’em, and as has been proven many time before, a short stack can come back and a large stack can fall quickly. The race to the bracelet and $481,760 will begin at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
